Blackburn manager Steve Kean has revealed he still intends to speak to Manchester City about Roque Santa Cruz's availability.
Santa Cruz returned to Ewood Park on loan in January after falling down the pecking order at City, but endured a disappointing few months.
He suffered a series of niggling injuries and failed to score in ten appearances for Rovers before the end of the season.
However, Kean still saw enough glimpses of the Paraguayan's obvious class to decide that a permanent deal is worth pursuing.
"It was tough for Roque. He picked up a couple of knocks," said the Blackburn manager.
"But every day in training, he showed us how good he is.
"Now the loan period's up, we'll be in contact and see if he's available."
