Skysports.com understands Barnsley and Peterborough are battling it out to sign former Exeter goalkeeper Paul Jones.
Jones is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at St James Park.
The 24-year-old ended the season on loan at Peterborough after joining the club during the January transfer window.
Peterborough are keen to make Jones' move permanent after he impressed during his loan stint at London Road, helping them win promotion to the Championship.
However, Barnsley could rival Peterborough for Jones' signature, with new Tykes boss Keith Hill an admirer of the shot-stopper.
