Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand thinks Sami Nasri would be capable of emulating Eric Cantona at Old Trafford.
Reports have suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson wants the France international to bring some creativity to his midfield following Paul Scholes' retirement.
Nasri has refused to rule out a move to the Premier League champions and Ferdinand thinks the 23-year-old could follow in the footsteps of United great Cantona.
"Samir Nasri is an excellent player who has a good technique and a huge amount of talent," said Ferdinand. "And he scores goals.
"For me, he is one of the best players right now. I think he even won the title of best French football player at international level.
"The French have a history of good players here. Thierry Henry has been fantastic. Just like Cantona. And let's not forget Marcel Desailly."
Meanwhile, Ferguson has reiterated he will spend this summer in order to stay ahead of the chasing pack in the Premier League and attempt to close the gap on Barcelona.
"I'm looking at possibly a couple, maybe three signings, which would boost our overall quality in the team," Ferguson told Inside United.
"Of course, the way we're looking at it is we have Ryan Giggs coming towards the end of his career and Gary Neville's already retired.
"Edwin van der Sar announced his retirement and there are holes we want to plug in terms of the safety and security of the team in the next few years."
