Valencia have signed Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Alves from relegated Almeria.

The 25-year-old arrives at the Mestella on a four-year contract to replace Villarreal-bound veteran Cesar Sanchez in goal.

Alves joined Almeria in 2007 from Atletico Mineiro in his homeland and will be reunited with coach Unai Emery, who left Almeria in 2008 to take charge of Valencia.

"It's a dream to sign for a great European team, and one that is going to play in the Champions League," Alves told the club's official website.

Valencia finished third in La Liga behind Barcelona and Real Madrid last month to earn automatic qualification for next season's Champions League.
