Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has revealed Derby County defender Russell Anderson has turned down the chance to return to Pittodrie.
Anderson started his career with the Dons and made in excess of 300 appearances for the club before leaving for Sunderland in 2007.
However, the centre-half struggled to make an impact at the Stadium of Light and has spent the past 18 months on the books of Derby.
He has endured an injury-hit season at Pride Park and was offered the opportunity to head back to his first club in the summer.
The 32-year-old, though, wants to stay with the Rams and Brown will now look elsewhere for the big-name signing he is keen to capture ahead of next season.
"I spoke to Russell last week but was unable to persuade him to return," said Brown in the Daily Record.
"He would have been the stellar signing I am trying to get for our fans as he was an outstanding player here.
"The search for a big-name player goes on. I can assure the fans everything possible is being done to strengthen the squad, but I would rather make no signing than the wrong signing."
