Argentine ace Sergio Aguero hopes that Atletico Madrid respect his wish to continue his career elsewhere.
The forward released a statement on his personal website on Tuesday confirming that he wants to leave the Vicente Calderon, despite only signing a contract extension in January.
Aguero is likely to be one of the most sought-after summer transfers as a result and he has long been linked with Atletico's Spanish capital rivals, Real Madrid, as well as Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.
There is a danger that Atletico will do all they can to prevent the 22-year-old from moving on and they are certain to seek a multi-million pound fee, but he hopes there can be an amicable parting.
He told reporters in Spain: "I have made my decision and the club should respect that.
"They knew that I was going to release a statement on my official website to announce my desire to leave.
"I think that I have said everything that I needed to say in that statement.
"I already told the directors when I renewed my contract that I would announce my wish to leave whenever I felt the time was right.
"I opted to wait with the announcement until the end of the league campaign. The only thing I want to say about it is that Atletico knew I would make the statement."
