David Edwards has been ruled out for Wales ahead of next week's Carling Nations Cup matches.

The Wolves midfielder had been named in Gary Speed's squad for the games against Scotland and Northern Ireland in Dublin.

But the 25-year-old, who has not played for his club since February due to a back injury, has had to withdraw and will now aim to be fit for the start of next season.

Four players involved in the Championship play-off final - Ashley Williams, Joe Allen, Simon Church and Hal Robson-Kanu have already pulled out along with the injured Lewin Nyatanga and Ched Evans.

And with Coventry's Freddy Eastwood a doubt ahead of the games, Speed has called up Norwich midfielder Owain Tudur Jones as a late replacement.

Craig Morgan, Andy Dorman and Jermaine Easter were drafted into the squad last week.

Speed, who is still looking for his first win since taking charge, is intending on rotating his squad when they take on Scotland on Wednesday and Northern Ireland 48 hours later at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
