Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez has urged owner Mike Ashley to do all he can to retain left-back Jose Enrique.
After taking time to settle in English football following a move from Villarreal four years ago the Spaniard has became a key player for the Magpies.
However, the 25-year-old only has a year left on his St James' Park deal and, with Liverpool reportedly sniffing around his services, Newcastle could cash in early.
Gutierrez is a huge fan of Enrique's ability and, as the pair have an excellent understanding, he wants the club to push the boat out and lock down his signature on a lengthy deal.
"On the pitch, what we have down the left side is something no other Premier League team has," explained Gutierrez.
"It is a very special relationship between Jose and me. We have an amazing understanding, almost telepathic. Having Jose playing the way he does is brilliant for me, we know what each other is thinking.
"I believe Enrique is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, right up there with Ashley Cole, Patrice Evra and Gael Clichy. Jose is only young so he is going to get even stronger.
"Enrique is one of the best players I have played with. I have been lucky because I have played with great left-backs such as Fernando Navarro, who also played for Spain, Gabriel Heinze, for Argentina. Enrique is up with them."
