Skysports.com understands Hull have made an offer for former Ipswich midfielder David Norris.
Norris is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Portman Road.
The former Plymouth star rejected the offer of a two-year deal to stay at Ipswich as he seeks to find a new club.
Portsmouth have held a long-term interest in the 30-year-old and are ready to make a new move for the player after seeing bids rejected for Norris during the January transfer window.
Leeds and newly-promoted Queens Park Rangers are also thought to be keen on landing Norris, but Hull are hoping to win the race for his services.
Norris, who had a loan spell at Hull in 2002, has been offered a lucrative deal by the Tigers to make the switch to the KC Stadium.
Norris is now weighing up the offer from Hull and other clubs as he considers where he will be playing his football next season.
