Landry N'Guemo is yet to open discussions with Real Betis and claims he could yet remain at Nancy.
The Cameroon international was expected to be on the move this summer, with a switch to Spain widely touted.
Betis have led the hunt for his signature for some time, as the 25-year-old prepares to drop into the free agent pool.
There have, however, been no talks between the Sevilla-based outfit and N'Guemo as yet.
That has kept the door open for Nancy, who hope they can persuade the midfielder to stay if they avoid relegation out of the French top flight.
"No concrete offer has been made so far," N'Guemo told L'Equipe.
"La Liga is a major European league and it would be a dream to play there.
"But I am also in talks with Nancy and they would like to keep me if we stay up."
