Northampton have signed defender Byron Webster on a two-year contract following his release by Doncaster.

The 24-year-old centre-half made eight appearances for the Cobblers on loan towards the end of the season, and manager Gary Johnson is delighted to have snapped him up. "I believe we have secured ourselves a very good player," said Johnson. "I think the supporters know, having seen Byron play in the last few games of the season, that he is the sort of defender this club has possibly lacked over the last couple of years. "I am pleased he has decided to join us. I think there is a mutual respect between us and he still has lots of potential to improve. As a central defender he is still very young and I am sure he can fulfill that potential with us. "He has the physique to dominate both penalty areas and that is what we will be challenging him to do on a consistent basis next season."
