Aston Villa assistant boss Gary McAllister is keen to retain the services of goalkeeper Brad Friedel beyond the summer.
The veteran American has played in every Premier League game since joining the club in the summer of 2008 for £2million from Blackburn, despite his 40th birthday approaching on Wednesday.
Rumours have circulated that Liverpool are interested in bringing the shot-stopper back to Anfield on a free transfer, a club Friedel left in 1999 to move to Ewood Park, with his contract expiring in the summer.
Despite his advancing years, Friedel is still regarded as one of the most consistent keepers in the division.
McAllister maintains that he does not know of any interest from other clubs, but stated that talks are in place to retain his services, although they are wary of his age.
"I don't know if there are other clubs interested, but there have been discussions and a contract offer made to Brad," said McAllister.
"He's had a fantastic season, no doubt about that, but everybody is aware of his age, and it's something we've got to be looking at as well.
"But he's played the part of the experienced player very well."
