Bayern Munich have moved a step closer to signing Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from Schalke after holding "constructive" talks.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and board member Karl Hopfner met with Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt and board member Peter Peters in Berlin on Tuesday to discuss a potential transfer.

While it had previously seemed that both clubs were some way apart in terms of their respective valuations of the Germany number one, it now appears that bridges have been built during the meeting.

Optimistic

"It was a very constructive and fair talk," Rummenigge told Munich's Tz newspaper. "We now have a basis to work on.

"I have always said that it would not be easy to find a price that both sides can accept in the end, but after this meeting, I am cautiously optimistic that we have found a price.

"It is now up to our colleagues from Schalke to discuss it with their board."

Bayern have reportedly offered Schalke €18million (£15.7m) with a further €7million dependent on success to bring Neuer to the Allianz Arena.
