Benni McCarthy has vowed to bounce back and play football once more after leaving West Ham.

Striker wants to get fit and continue his playing career

Benni McCarthy has vowed to bounce back and play football once more after leaving West Ham. The South Africa international has left the Hammers by mutual consent after an injury hit year at Upton Park following his move from Blackburn at the end of last year's winter transfer window. The 33-year-old striker failed to score in 14 appearances and admits he let things slip because of injuries before the termination of his contract. But McCarthy claims he is not ready to go into coaching just yet and the frontman, who is still using the Hammers' training facilities until he recovers from a dead leg, says his priority is to get fit and secure a summer move to another club to continue his playing career. He told Sky Sports News: "For me really it isn't about the money. "If it was about the money I would have just thought to myself 'You know what, I get good money and I can be selfish, I'll just go to West Ham every single day, go train and go home and take my money and sit out my contract and then I'll bag a hell of a lot of money, more than the average person would get'. "(But) I don't want money or anything else to get in the way of what I love doing the most and that's playing football. "So I don't see myself becoming a coach just yet." He added: "If new challenges mean in England, then perfect, and if it means away from England, then just as well."
