Terry Butcher believes Inverness is the best place for Adam Rooney and hopes the striker signs a new deal at the club.
The 22-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is believed to be attracting the interest of a number of clubs.
Rooney has enjoyed a fine season with Inverness, scoring 19 goals so far this term and he was the subject of interest from Russia during the January transfer window.
Butcher plans further contract talks with Rooney and hopes to persuade the former Stoke man to stay put.
"We'll speak to Adam in due course, see what he's got to say," said Butcher.
"We would obviously love him to stay so we will be looking to make him an offer that will keep him here.
"Hopefully he'll sign that offer and we'll all be very happy.
"He does dovetail very well with our system, the style and the way we want to operate - I'm sure he wouldn't get that anywhere else.
"From our point of view we'd love him to be here."
