Preston North End midfielder Barry Nicholson is hoping he can agree a new contract to stay at Deepdale next season.
Nicholson's current deal expires in the summer and Preston boss Phil Brown revealed last month that he had held talks about an extension for the 32-year-old.
Brown has impressed Nicholson since taking charge of the Lilywhites, but the club are still embroiled in a battle for Championship survival.
Having been an influential figure since returning from a long-term injury, Nicholson is keen to stay at Preston, but accepts it could hinge on what division the club are playing in next season.
"As for the boss, he has produced a high intensity to our work and has improved us all around the pitch," said Nicholson.
"He is a bubbly character and gets involved in the training.
"Personally, my contract is up at the end of the season but I hope to stay here because I am really enjoying it after recovering from a broken leg.
"The gaffer hopes something can be sorted out but I realise that might depend on which division we are in next season."
