Germany legend Oliver Bierhoff has urged Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to reconsider a potential move to Manchester United.
The in-demand Germany number one is believed to be wanted by United, but last month suggested he is not prepared to leave his homeland without winning a Bundesliga title.
However, Germany general manager Bierhoff, who moved to Italian side Ascoli in 1991 before developing into a worldwide star, believes Neuer would benefit from a switch abroad.
"I was a young player when I went to Italy and it was good for me," said Bierhoff, who also played for Udinese, Milan and Verona.
"He will fit into the English game. He has to play. He can become one of the best goalkeepers in the world."
Neuer's talent came to light during Germany's eventful World Cup campaign last summer and the 25-year-old's Schalke contract expires in 2012.
