Garry Thompson has been ruled out for the rest of the season for Scunthorpe after a groin operation.
The procedure brings to an end a frustrating season for Thompson, who first picked up the injury in August against Norwich.
The attacking midfielder underwent an initial operation in February after trying on numerous occasions to return to training only to break down.
Thompson will now look to recover after making just five starts this season, with a view to playing his way into new manager Alan Knill's plans next term.
"Garry had an operation on his groin on Monday so won't be available for the rest of the season," former caretaker boss Tony Daws told the club's official website.
"He's working to recover and make sure that he's ready for next season.
"Thommo is a great lad and is as keen as mustard. He wants to play but unfortunately at the moment he's not able to."
