Former France international determined to burst back into the game

Free agent Jerome Rothen is working hard on his fitness and hopes to be snapped up over the summer. The former France international has been without a club since negotiating his release from Paris St Germain in November. At that time he thought it would be easy to get employment, given his reputation, but he has struggled to attract suitable offers. The 33-year-old is not about to give up, though, and has made sure that he remains in peak physical condition. He is now hoping that a French club will come calling at the end of the season, with a step down into the second division something he is willing to consider. "I had offers in January but I thought about things for too long," Rothen told L'Equipe.

Passion

"When I cancelled my contract at PSG, I thought I would be a free agent and be able to sign for whoever I wanted. "But because I had been under contract this season, the league refused to accept that I could go and get another one. I now have to wait until June to sign for another club. "I am working hard every day and I am open to offers from any club. I would prefer to stay in France, even in Ligue 2. "I see a lot of clubs that are missing left-footed players and that makes me angry because I could still do a job for them. "People say I have a bad boy reputation but I have only ever had problems with one coach, Guy Lacombe. "Football is my passion and I don't want to end my career this way."
