Madjid Bougherra has given Rangers' title challenge a considerable boost by returning to training for Algeria.
The defender came off during the Gers' Co-operative Insurance Cup final win over Celtic with a suspected hamstring injury on Sunday.
It was feared he could be out for a month and he is awaiting an MRI scan to determine the seriousness of the injury.
However, the centre-back is eager to prove his fitness while on international duty in order to make the starting line up for Algeria's clash against North African rivals Morocco on Sunday.
If he does, Rangers boss Walter Smith will be delighted at his rapid recovery as the season approaches a climax in the Scottish Premier League.
"I've had a scan and I have to wait for the results before I know whether or not I can play," Bougherra told the Daily Record.
"By Friday at the latest I will know.
"In my head I'm ready to play but it's not down to me. I have to look after myself and wait and see what the doctors say."
