Eric Abidal's agent has revealed that the Barcelona defender is 'recovering well' after surgery.
The French full-back went under the knife last week to remove a tumour on his liver and the 31-year-old is now awaiting the results of a biopsy to 'see if everything is fine'.
He is said to be in 'good spirits' and making positive progress in his early rehabilitation.
Abidal's representative David Venditelli has also confirmed that Barca have put fresh terms to his client, but understand that contract issues are not the priority at present.
He told COM Radio: "We would prefer to wait for the results on Eric's health before talking about a contract extension.
"It is clear that Eric is happy with how the club has responded.
"He is pleased Barca are keen to negotiate an extension. [Director of football] Raul Sanllehi and [sporting director] Andoni Zubizarreta have been exceptional."
Abidal joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2007 and had been a regular in Pep Guardiola's plans this season before being forced out of action.
