Leicester midfielder Matt Oakley has extended his contract with the Walkers Stadium side until June 2012.
The Foxes' club captain, who joined from Derby in January 2008, will now remain with Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad for a further season.
And the former England boss believes the 33-year-old ex-Southampton man will be an asset both on and off the pitch in the coming months.
"I am very happy we have agreed an extension with Matt," Eriksson told the club's official website.
Important
"He is not only a good football player but he is an excellent professional.
"It is important for us to have people like Matt around the club, especially as we often have a young team out on the pitch.
"He has a positive influence on his colleagues and his experience in the game will be invaluable for us."
Oakley added: "I've had three fantastic years with Leicester during which the club has made huge progress on the road back to the top flight - the level our supporters deserve to see City playing at.
"With the ambition of the owners, the vision of the manager and the talent in our squad, it seems only a matter of time before we achieve our ambition of Premier League football and I'm delighted I'll have the opportunity to continue to be part of the journey."
