Scunthorpe United are hoping to finalise a loan deal to bring Reading defender Marcus Williams back to Glanford Park.
Williams left Scunthorpe for Reading last summer, but has made only five appearances during his time with Brian McDermott's side.
He spent a spell on loan at Peterborough United in the autumn and rejected a loan move to Carlisle United in the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old is now set to rejoin Scunthorpe on loan until the end of the season before Thursday's deadline.
Iron caretaker manager Tony Daws told the club's official website: "He's a natural left-sider, who provides good pace, which the team needs. He's been with us as well and is a player we know a lot about.
"He will bring us a different option as we go forward because he gets up and down that line.
"He hasn't done as well as he'd have liked at Reading so coming back to familiar territory might get the best out of him.
"It won't take him long to settle in, he knows the club inside out.
"Sometimes it takes a new player a while to settle into the ways of a club but hopefully Marcus can hit the ground running."
