Midfielder joins League One club until end of the season

Skysports.com understands Charlton Athletic have signed midfielder Michael Stewart on a deal until the end of the season. Stewart has been a free agent since leaving Genclerbirligi and proved his fitness to Addicks boss Chris Powell in training last week. The 29-year-old had joined Turkish club Genclerbirligi last summer from Hearts but terminated his contract in January after a series of late and part payments of his salary. He was linked with Premier League side Blackpool and also saw a move to Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United fall through. The former Manchester United has now clinched a contract with Charlton and is expected to make his debut against Bournemouth on Saturday. Charlton are first in action on Tuesday evening when Powell's side look to improve upon a run of seven defeats in eight games at home to promotion-chasing Southampton.
