Newcastle boss Alan Pardew believes Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan are deserving of international recognition.
The Magpies pair have been mightily impressive this season, with their Premier League experience helping the club to settle back among England's elite.
Barton has been called upon by England in the past, earning one cap back in 2007, and many feel he should be returned to the fold.
His midfield colleague Nolan has never represented his country at senior level, despite being a regular source of goals for Bolton and Newcastle.
Pardew feels it is about time Fabio Capello offered both men an opportunity to impress, with their fine form fully deserving of a place in the national squad.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "I'm certainly surprised Kevin has never been involved because of what he is.
"The problem with England is they are always thinking of building a team, and I absolutely disagree with that. For me, it's about picking your best 11 players.
"If that's the case, Kevin and Joey deserved to be involved.
"There's nothing to build with the England national team. Every game is massive, including the next one, and you have got to play your best team.
"On that basis, I'm surprised Kevin and Joey haven't been involved."
