Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier insists he has not made an offer for Rennes goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez.
Reports in France stated that Douchez had rejected the chance to join Houllier in January.
But Houllier insists he has shown no interest in signing the 30-year-old goalkeeper, who is out of contract in the summer.
"I deny contacting directly or indirectly Nicolas Douchez. It is fake," he told L'Equipe.
"And if it would have been the case, I would have directly called Rennes' general manager Pierre Dreossi."
Rennes have offered him a new three-year deal, but he has stalled on that, instead opting to listen to other options.
Paris St Germain are said to be leading the chase domestically, but he has interest from throughout Europe.
"I will go where I am wanted," said Douchez. "For now I am seeing what is going to happen, and listen."
It is claimed that Douchez is holding out for a move to Spain.
