Kilmarnock boss Mixu Paatelainen has confirmed SPL rivals Hearts have expressed an interest in Mehdi Taouil.
Hearts manager Jim Jefferies, who signed Taouil for Kilmarnock, has made an approach to the Moroccan with a view to a switch to Tynecastle when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Paatelainen admits Kilmarnock cannot compete financially with Hearts, but remains hopeful of persuading Taouil to stay at Rugby Park.
"Hearts have been in touch with us and they have been polite enough to inform us that they are having talks with him," said Paatelainen.
"I've spoken to Mehdi already about it, before I knew about Hearts' interest.
"Hearts' player budget is many, many, many times bigger than ours so it's very likely they have much more resources available to lure him over there but we will see how things develop.
"When I spoke to Mehdi, he said this is the most enjoyable season so far in his days in Scotland.
"He has loved every minute of it, he enjoys the way we play and his role in the team.
"These are very important reasons to stay so we'll see how things develop.
"It is very important that all our players enjoy our training and the way we play and I'm so glad to hear positive comments from Mehdi."
