Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill has conceded he fears losing striker David Nugent for nothing in the summer.
Nugent is out of contract at the end of the season and as yet has failed to agree a new deal.
Cotterill is hoping Nugent will decide to stay at Fratton Park and repay the faith the club has shown in him.
"Nothing has changed with Nuge as far as I know. I think his agent wants to sit on that until the end of the season," Cotterill told The News.
"Nuge's position won't get any stronger between now and the end of the season than it already is at this club. If he scores another five goals, it won't make any difference in putting him in a stronger position.
"We already like the kid and we know his worth. He won't get to a stronger position with us.
"Hopefully, he will remember what we've done for him. I haven't spoken to the agent myself. I think David Lampitt will speak to him."
