Wigan head into Saturday's encounter at the DW Stadium inside the relegation zone and in possession of a torrid record against United.

The Latics have lost all 12 previous games against Sir Alex Ferguson's side and have scored only once in the past seven meetings.

However, after bottom club Wolves ended United's unbeaten league run earlier this month, Watson is feeling upbeat ahead of the visit of the title favourites.

Quality

"They got beat at Wolves so hopefully it'll be the same at our place," Watson told the Wigan Evening Post.

"You don't go nearly 30 games unbeaten without being a decent team, though, so they must be doing something right.

"They've got quality all over the pitch, two internationals in every position.

"But we won't be scared of them - we went to Anfield last week and fully deserved a point, and we'll be looking to do the same again on Saturday."

The midfielder added: "United are a fantastic footballing team, but we like to get the ball down as well.

"It'll be a big test for us but, on our day, we're capable of competing with anyone in the division.

"We've got four of the big five coming up, but it's that time of the season where we need to pick up points. And we'll be giving 100 per cent to try to make sure we do."
