Brazilian forward damages knee ligaments

Julio Baptista will require surgery on a knee problem that looks set to sideline him for up to six weeks. The Malaga forward picked up the injury in training last week. It has now been revealed that the Brazil international has suffered a ligament strain in his right knee. Malaga, keen to have the experienced striker back as soon as possible, have revealed that Baptista will go under the knife 'in the next few days'. The news comes as a major blow to the Primera Liga's bottom club, as they scrap for top flight survival. They snapped up Baptista in the hope that he could help lead them away from trouble. He did manage two goals in his opening five appearances for the club, but will be denied the opportunity to add to that tally until April.
