Keeper should be fit to provide cover for Foster in Carling Cup final

Birmingham City are hoping veteran goalkeeper Maik Taylor will be available for the Carling Cup final next weekend. Taylor has been sidelined since early January after the Northern Ireland international tore a knee ligament in the FA Cup third round win at Millwall. He is closing on a return to fitness and Blues boss Alex McLeish is optimistic Taylor will be able to provide the back-up to Ben Foster against Arsenal. McLeish said: "It is looking good for Maik in terms of the final. "He's done training this week and he's on course to give Ben the cover." The 39-year-old has made four appearances in cup competitions for Birmingham this season and is eager to return to fitness. Taylor said: "It's important for me to be back, not just because of the final but because I want a strong end to the season."
