David Luiz has revealed there were times when he felt his move to Chelsea would not get completed last month.
The 23-year-old only signed for the Premier League holders on deadline day after weeks of speculation linking them with the elegant defender.
It was feared Benfica's insistence on a huge fee would scupper the deal but Chelsea eventually found the £23million required to prise him away.
"I was concerned that everyone was leaving it until the last minute but I never lost faith I would sign for Chelsea," Luiz said.
"I spoke to Ramires many times during the negotiations.
"We were good friends during our time together at Barcelona and he always spoke very positively about Chelsea and English football.
"I have seen a lot of the Premier league on TV and I understand it's a lot faster and more physical than the football I was used to in Brazil and Portugal.
"But football is a physical game and if I didn't like that side of it I would be playing tennis!"
