Wigan defender Gary Caldwell could return to face Liverpool on Saturday wearing a face mask after fracturing his cheekbone.
Caldwell was absent for the Latics' 4-3 triumph over Blackburn last weekend after picking up the injury against West Brom earlier this month.
The Scotland stopper was not involved in Wednesday night's victory over Northern Ireland, with manager Craig Levein reluctant to risk him.
However, the 28-year-old took part in training with his national side in Dublin, and Latics boss Roberto Martinez is optimistic over him featuring at Anfield this weekend, as long as precautions are taken.
"Gary has been involved with Scotland and they felt, as we did, it would have been a big risk for him to play Wednesday," said Martinez.
"He trained, used the mask and it worked well. I hope he is fit and available this weekend."
