Mario Gomez has claimed Chelsea made a 42millions euros (£35.7million) bid for his services in January.

Bayern reported to have rejected offer from Blues

Mario Gomez has claimed Chelsea made a 42millions euros (£35.7million) bid for his services during the January transfer window. The Bayern Munich striker, who currently tops the Bundesliga scoring charts, was apparently targeted by the Blues as they looked to bolster their strikeforce. Carlo Ancelotti's side eventually splashed out a staggering £50million to lure Spain international Fernando Torres to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool. Chelsea's bid for Gomez was rejected by Bayern and the Germany international claims he was initially kept in the dark over their interest.

Top club

But the 25-year-old has admitted that he would not have been tempted by a switch to the Premier League champions and FA Cup holders as he is committed to his career at the Allianz Arena. "I only found out about the offer after the club had turned it down," Gomez told Sport Bild weekly. "But it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I am already at a top club and I am playing where I always wanted to." Gomez made a slow start to his career with Bayern following his 30million euros move from Stuttgart in 2009 but has found his feet this term and currently has 16 goals to his name.
