Santander lodge appeal

Racing Santander have lodged an appeal with the Spanish league, with the hope of being able to bring in another player despite the transfer window being closed. Santander are consulting the medical committee of the LFP (Spanish league) about the possibility of getting their forward Oscar Serrano signed out of their squad. He injured ligaments in his left knee in early January ruling him out for the season, and they now hope they can take him out of their squad list which will allow them to bring in another signing. The man they want remains Birmingham's Nikola Zigic - a club legend, and one who new Indian owner Ali Syed is determined to bring back to Santander. The close of the window looked to have meant their bid to land him was over, but if the LFP agree to Racing's request that could allow them to sign Zigic. Talks are understood to be continuing with Zigic's agent Milan Calasan, but it remains highly unlikely that Birmingham would even consider letting the Serb leave.
