Aberdeen ace Chris Maguire has told skysports.com of his pride at winning his first call-up to the Scotland squad for next week's clash with Northern Ireland.
Maguire has been promoted from the Under 21s side to the senior squad for the Carling Nations Cup opener against Northern Ireland in Dublin.
The 22-year-old has been rewarded for his fine form this season with a call-up by Craig Levein and Maguire, who scored a stunning goal from the halfway line against Iceland earlier this season, has set his sights on becoming a regular in the Scotland squad.
"Obviously I am very pleased to win my first call-up to the Scotland squad," Maguire told skysports.com.
"The first I heard about it was when I saw it on Sky Sports News and I have heard nothing yet from Craig Levein, but I am sure I will find out more later this week.
"It is my first step up to the national team after playing at all other levels and hopefully I can take my chance.
Proud"There is no bigger achievement than playing for your country and it will be the proudest moment of my career if I get picked.
"Hopefully I can get a run-out for 10 or 20 minutes against Northern Ireland and I will enjoy the experience of being in the squad and training with my team-mates."
