Blackburn are hoping to tie up a deal for Barcelona starlet Ruben Rochina before Monday's transfer deadline, skysports.com understands.
The Barca youngster is currently with Luis Enrique's B side and he has impressed this season.
However, Barca's hierarchy do not feel he is ready to make the breakthrough to the first-team squad and so they have sanctioned his departure.
Blackburn are now locked in talks with Rochina, who is understood to be in England having his medical.
Blackburn were set to sign him on a pre-contract ahead of a summer move, but they are looking to seal his signing now and it is believed Rochina has been offered a three-and-half-year deal.
However, Barca have inserted a clause allowing them to buy him back up until the summer of 2012.
Rovers, who have also been linked to Rochina's team-mate Victor Vazques, are continuing talks with Argentine forward Mauro Formica.
The Newell's Old Boys star is being chased by Monaco and Blackburn, and both are hopeful of sealing his signature on Monday.
Rovers boss Steve Kean remains hopeful a deal will be done, adding: "There is a technical problem with a piece of paperwork we need and if we get that then hopefully that (Formica) can go through before the window closes.
"Mauro Formica was there on Saturday. If we can get that final bit of paper then hopefully that will be him here."
