Brown keen to be reunited with his former Hull captain

Skysports.com understands Preston North End manager Phil Brown is planning a reunion with Hull City midfielder Ian Ashbee. The 34-year-old captained the Tigers during Brown's reign at the KC Stadium and skippered the team to promotion to the Premier League in 2008. He missed all of last season with a cruciate ligament injury, but has returned to fitness this term to make 20 appearances for Nigel Pearson's side. However, Ashbee could secure a move away from the Tigers before the close of the transfer window after attracting interest from Preston. Brown has recently replaced Darren Ferguson in charge at Deepdale and is looking to add experience to his squad in the fight to avoid relegation. It is understood that Ashbee is ready to join the Championship's bottom club on loan for the remainder of the season with a view to a permanent move. Sheffield United had also been linked with a bid for Ashbee, but it appears Preston are close to finalising the transfer.
