Skysports.com understands Preston are in transfer talks with Burnley striker Chris Iwelumo.
The Scotland international only joined the Clarets from Wolves over the summer, penning a two-year contract.
He has enjoyed a productive debut campaign so far, notching 10 goals in the Championship.
There is, however, uncertainty surrounding his future now that Eddie Howe has taken charge at Turf Moor.
Pecking order
The new Clarets boss looks set to snap up Charlie Austin from Swindon, adding to his attacking options.
That could force Iwelumo down the pecking order and out of the first-team picture.
Preston are aware of that and hope they can lure the experienced frontman to Deepdale.
The Lilywhites are in desperate need of reinforcements after slumping to the foot of the Championship table.
