The 25-year-old expressed his desire to leave the Hammers earlier this month and his wish has now been granted as he joins the Viola for an undisclosed fee.

The Hammers snapped up Behrami from Lazio in a £5million deal back in 2008, and the midfielder went on to score five goals in 63 appearances for the club.

After impressing during his opening season at Upton Park, Behrami suffered a serious knee injury in March 2009 and was sidelined for over six months.

West Ham, currently rock bottom of the Premier League table, confirmed the player's departure on their official website.

"Switzerland international Valon Behrami has joined Italian Serie A club ACF Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee," the club said in a statement.

"The club would like to thank Behrami for his contribution and wish him every success for the future."
