The European champions were being linked with a swoop for the teenage Feyenoord striker this month but then leaving him in Holland until the summer to gain more experience.

But the Italian press are now reporting Inter would be interested in signing the 18-year-old immediately as cover for striker Diego Milito.

The Argentinaen ace was out for a few few weeks after suffering a thigh muscle strain on international duty in October and the Italian champions would like cover as they mount a serious push to retain their title.

While Castaignos, who has netted six times in the Eredivisie this term, is pleased with the interest, he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, remembering he was linked to English sides two seasons ago but no move materialised.

He said: "I know there is interest from Inter towards me and I can't deny it - it makes me proud.

"But also, when I was 16, I was linked to a few English sides and then I remained here."

As well as Inter, Arsenal and Manchester United are also thought to be interested in the Dutch starlet.
