Emir Spahic's move to Aston Villa depends on the future of boss Gerard Houllier, according to the player's agent.
The Montpellier defender has been linked with Arsenal in the past but his agent, Bekim Dino Pasalic, has confirmed Houllier's interest.
Spahic is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, but Houllier's precarious position at Villa is threatening to scupper the deal.
The former Liverpool boss is under pressure having seen his side plunge into the Premier League relegation zone following a poor sequence of results.
Pasalic is wary of the situation and believes the future of Spahic, who captains Bosnia, could depend on Sunday's Midlands derby with Birmingham.
"Houllier wants Spahic at Villa," Pasalic told The News of the World. "But after he lost against Sunderland, his job is not secure any more.
"If his team wins the derby, he will stay as Villa manager and be given a free hand to buy anyone he wants.
"If he loses, he will be sacked and the Spahic transfer will be off," he claims.
"I know the Montpellier president said Spahic can't leave. But I spoke to him and he was realistic.
"If Villa's offer is good enough, he will let Spahic go to England. Now we are waiting for the Birmingham result to see what to do next."
