Skysports.com understands Tottenham are in pole position to sign Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar.
Pienaar's representatives are thought to be in London holding talks with Spurs and are hopeful of tying up a deal for the 28-year-old
Everton confirmed on Friday they had received two bids from Chelsea and Tottenham for contract rebel Pienaar.
Talks with Chelsea are believed to have broken down, leaving the way clear for Tottenham to snare the skilful midfielder.
It had been suggested that a number of top European clubs were ready to land Pienaar on a pre-contract deal, but the player is believed to be keen to remain in England.
Tottenham had hoped to land the South African international on a free transfer in the summer, but were forced to step up their interest in Pienaar after Chelsea made a move for the player.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has never hidden his admiration for Pienaar and he sees the former Borussia Dortmund star as a key addition to his squad as they challenge for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
