Roberto Martinez insists Wigan are 'lucky' to have Mauro Boselli despite a loan move to Genoa.

Wigan boss will monitor Argentine closely at Genoa

Roberto Martinez insists Wigan are 'lucky' to have a striker of Mauro Boselli's quality despite the Argentine's loan transfer to Genoa for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old only moved to England from Estudiantes in the summer of 2010, but he has struggled to make an impact and Genoa confirmed on Thursday that a deal had been agreed. Boselli has scored just one goal in 12 appearances for Wigan and it had been speculated for several weeks that he would move away from the DW Stadium in the transfer window. Martinez duly decided to send the forward out on loan to Genoa in order to get his career back on track, but this does not necessarily spell the end of his Wigan career. The Spaniard explained: "I have always said we are lucky to have a player of Mauro's quality at our club, but he needs this opportunity to play because at the moment he cannot be the player he has been at Estudiantes over the past two seasons. "At the moment he is not in a position where he can help the squad, and I am confident he will come back a better and stronger player after his stay in Italy. "We wish him all the best over there and will be monitoring his progress weekly."
