Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has admitted defeat in his pursuit of David Wheater.
The Middlesbrough defender is currently in talks with Bolton and McCarthy feels he is destined for the Reebok Stadium.
McCarthy was keen on the 23-year-old, who has also attracted interest from the likes of Aston Villa, Everton and Stoke.
But McCarthy thinks his move to Bolton is all but done, saying: "I think you'll probably find he'll end up at Bolton and that will be great business for them."
Wheater is yet to finalise his move and Boro have confirmed that, although not playing him at Burton Albion in the FA Cup last week, he could be involved for their crucial Championship clash at Bristol City this weekend.
Meanwhile, Boro continue to check on their former defender Andrew Davies.
The Stoke stopper has been told to find a new club and is training with Boro, and played in their reserve-team match against Grimsby on Wednesday.
