Cardiff City are waiting for a response from Adam Matthews after offering the full-back a new contract.
Matthews has attracted interest from Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United in the past, but has started only twice in the Championship this season.
The defender, who turns 19 on Thursday, is considering a new deal with the Bluebirds and the promotion hopefuls are giving Matthews time to decide.
"An offer has been made and we are waiting to hear from Adam," said Cardiff chief executive Gethin Jenkins in the Western Mail.
Matthews has made a total of 11 appearances in all competitions this term and is happy to wait for his chance in Dave Jones' side.
He said: "I've played in quite a few matches this season and I'm making progress.
"I have a long way to go to reach my potential and I can't expect to play every week with quality defenders like Kevin McNaughton and Lee Naylor in front of me.
"Every young player wants to be involved all the time, but the team are winning games and stand second in the table.
"I won't be moaning about not starting, but I will also be ready if the gaffer needs me. There is a long way to go this season."
