Adam: Villa target

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway insists the club do not need to sell Charlie Adam after the club rejected bids from Aston Villa and Birmingham for the midfielder.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form for the Tangerines this season and has caught the eye of a number of clubs.

Villa have had a £2.5million bid for the Scotland international knocked back while Birmingham City are thought to have tabled a £2million offer.

Holloway claims Blackpool are not looking to sell any players during the January transfer window and hopes to add to his squad instead.

When asked if it was correct the Seasiders had snubbed Villa and Birmingham, he said: "It's true.

"I've spoken to Charlie, he knows where I'm coming from, I know where he's coming from.

"At the end of the day it will probably be another storm in a teacup, like it was that he was going to go and he was going to be out of contract.

"My chairman's had a couple (of phone calls) which he's told me about and he's told those clubs exactly where we are.

"We're a well run club, we've got no reason to sell anyone, in fact we want to add in this window, not lose anyone.

Ambition

"It's not important to keep a player if a player doesn't want to be here -

it's important to keep working with him to achieve one of his ultimate goals,

which is to play for one of the top four or five, or even six, clubs.

"We have got him for 18 months on his contract and if one of those top clubs I

told him this morning come in then I might have to consider it, but they would

have to offer the right amount of money for this club to move forward."

Striker Bradley Wright-Phillips is thought to have snubbed a move to Bloomfield Road in favour of a switch to Reading.

"I lost a target yesterday, he went and signed for someone else, but such is life," Holloway added.

"We'll have another go and when I'll try and get my chairman to get me a few players."

It remains to be seen whether Villa or Birmingham will up their bid for Adam, with speculation previously suggesting the Seasiders were ready to cash-in on the midfielder.
