Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has confirmed his interest in signing Wayne Bridge.

The Villa boss is looking to bolster his full-back options and has already signed Kyle Walker on loan from Tottenham this week.

He has now turned his attention to the left side and has targeted Manchester City's Bridge.

Houllier has confirmed that Villa have made an approach to City, and hope to strike a deal.

"There has been dialogue (regarding Bridge)," said Houllier.

"But it is true we have been talking to them."

The chances of Bridge leaving City were boosted on Friday, when Pablo Zabaleta won his appeal against the red card he picked up against Arsenal.

Bridge is currently well down the pecking order under Roberto Mancini and has started just one Premier League game this season.

West Ham and Newcastle have also been linked with moves for the former Chelsea man.
