Skysports.com understands that Rangers are preparing a bid of up to £2million for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.
The newly-capped Scotland international has become hot property in the SPL after scoring 10 goals in the competition this season.
Defending champions Rangers want the forward to help in the quest to reclaim their crown and boss Walter Smith is prepared to bid between £1.5m and £2m.
Skysports.com reported in the summer that English Premier League newcomers Blackpool were also interested in Goodwillie.
But United did not sell and are again likely to want to keep hold of one of their best assets as he continues to develop.
Goodwillie is only 21, but has already been labelled as a potential permanent member of the Scotland team for several years to come.
