Dutchman hoping to rebound at the Reebok

Ronnie Stam has admitted Wigan are under pressure ahead of their derby clash with Bolton on Wednesday. Wigan currently sit 17th in the league, just a single point above the relegation zone ahead of an away trip to high-flying Bolton. With just one win in their last six games, the Latics must start to pick up points quickly if they are to escape what is beginning to look like a testing relegation fight. Dutchman Stam was part of a Wigan side who were edged out 1-0 by Newcastle on Sunday, a defeat the 26-year-old found hard to stomach. "It will be tough to recover from Sunday, but we must get it out of our system as quickly as possible because we have a big game coming up at Bolton," Stam told the Wigan Evening Post. "Normally you try and win your home games and pick up something away, but the pressure is really on after Sunday's result. Of course we could have moved up the table with a win, but I don't look at things like that. "We just need to concentrate on ourselves and the league will take care of itself. "We didn't play our normal football, we ended up playing a lot of long balls and that's not like us. We didn't press them in any part of the field, and they did all of things we failed to do. "It's frustrating for us to lose the game but Newcastle were much better than us on the day and we have no excuses. We have to move on from this and learn that we must play more football, especially at home."
